Eighth Annual Bloggies

The more I wade into the waters of blogging, the more I learn about things I never knew, for example the Bloggies. The Annual Weblog Awards is a non-profit competition to determine the best blogs. While I wouldn’t be so open about my political views or voting record, I don’t mind sharing my votes for the Bloggies!

Best Web Application for Weblogs

WordPress

I used this application to maintain both this site and INFINITY. With the abundance of plugins and ease of use anyone can create an aesthetically pleasant website.

Best Australian or New Zealand Weblog

Skelliewag

I admit I had never heard of the nominees so I spent some time reading through, and while “Reasons You Will Hate Me” was the most entertaining, the most practical of use for me would be Skelleiwag.

Best Asian Weblog

Mall

Again, not a frequent reader of Asian blogs, but once I landed on Mall, I spent a lot of time clicking through looking at her art.

Best African Weblog

So Close

As a Truemorist I am constantly reading, searching for unique, impacting stories despite the world drooling for celebrity news. In case you were sleeping there’s a lot of sorrowful happenings in Africa, and the bloggers primarily focus on alerting the world to their issues. My vote for So Close is solely for its author, Tertia Née who shares her life and experiences with an honest sense of humor.

Best European Weblog

Chocolate & Zucchini

Although Arseblog could have won my vote just for its name alone, who can resist chocolate?

Best Latin American Weblog

Venezuela News and Views

A few of the nominees write in their primary language, but with online translators and my un poco comprende of Español I got the gist. None of that matters though because Venezuela News and Views which gives an overview of the decline of the country and its effects on the author is written in English.

Best Canadian Weblog

Attack of the Redneck Mommy

My vote is an endorsement towards her pursuit of global domination!

Best American Weblog

Lifehacker

As much as I enjoy reading my subscription to Dooce my vote went to Lifehacker for its content.

Best Photography of a Weblog

I Can Has Cheezburger

The site is addicting, hilarious, and has roots to Hawai’i!

Best Art or Craft Weblog

PostSecret

Public confessions using captioned photos. It’s strangely appealing.

Best Food Blog

The Food Pornographer

I have learned so many different things about cupcakes by reading Cupcakes Take The Cake unfortunately it’s only about cupcakes and my craving has not evolved to obsession.

Best Fashion Blog

Go Fug Yourself

Not a fan of the overuse of the word “fug” but in this category it is the best.

Best Weblog About Music

3hive

Personally, I would have voted for Nahenahe.net, but since I missed the nominations they weren’t on the ballot. 3hive is not just a blog about music, it’s a community.

Best Gossip Weblog

TMZ

When nearly every blog links to your site, you have to be the best.

Best Entertainment Weblog

Best Week Ever

All of the nominees are great and regular reads for me, but they serve their niche whereas Best Week Ever covers it all.

Best Sports Blog

Kickette

The only nominee who spins the topic of sports from the game to the players! Genius!

Best Weblog About Politics

The Huffington Post

This is a regular reader and worthy of a Truemor link site!

Best Computers or Technology Weblog

Lifehacker

I have to go with Lifehacker again, though it was quite tough. But, if Mashable were a nominee it would have been an easy choice.

Best Topical Weblog

I Can Has Cheezburger

Did you miss the comment about having Hawai’i ties?

Best GLBT Weblog

Perez Hilton

He titles himself Queen of All Media so of course he gets my vote.

Best Teen Weblog

Sarcastica

I admit that I’ve never read any of the nominees blogs so I quickly skimmed and based my vote on first impressions.

Most Humorous Weblog

Overheard in New York

Whether it’s actually overheard conversations or not, it’s a good laugh to read this blog.

Best Writing of a Weblog

Dooce

Her style of conveying her thoughts and experiences in words are worthy of water cooler discussions.

Best Group Weblog

Lifehacker

Clearly one of my favorites, but again where’s Mashable?

Best Community Weblog

NaBloPoMo

I haven’t ever participated but I’m preparing through my commitment to Blog365.

Best Designed Weblog

Web Designer Wall

I use NetVibes to organize all of the blogs I subscribe too, so many times I don’t visit the actual site unless I am social bookmarking. Of the nominees, although Dooce maintains a beautiful site, my vote went to a blog dedicated to helping others, and having an aesthetically pleasing site to build credibility.

Best Kept Secret Weblog

That Night

Well, if it’s in this category the likelihood of me having read it was slim, so I perused all of the nominees. And, while I was leaning towards the first site, I read That Night last and not only voted, but subscribed.

Best New Weblog

Local Girl’s Day In Pictures

I found it completely empowering to find that all five of the finalist are authored by women, and three are mothers. But, my vote went to the most unique of the finalist.

Lifetime Achievment

Fark

Although they don’t describe themselves as a blog, but a news aggregator with social features, they still got my vote because “it’s not news, it’s fark!”

Weblog of the Year

Lifehacker

Honestly, this was a tough choice.

And those are my choices. The Weblog Awards ceremony will be held at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas at which time the winners of the final four categories will receive 2007 cents!
