Today marks 180-days since Guy Kawasaki christened me Truemorist, and I have some regrets. Before I make my public confession, let me provide a refresher. I gave myself a brutally honest 90-day self-evaluation and committed to overcoming those obstacles in order for me to be a more effective Truemorist.
“Read about grammar, punctuation and writing style.”
Soon after I set the above goal, a new site was launched: DailyWritingTip by an online friend and local influencer-of-minds-willing-to-learn, Mitchell. This site features brief, descriptive, easy-to-understand lessons in writing; complete with a quiz on Fridays. My favorite lessons are the Weekend photos which features an advertisement or any publicly circulated or displayed piece of writing that have writing errors. Even if you may think you’re a writing pro, reminders of the rules of the scribe are always useful.
“Take a writing course.”
The Hawaii Department of Education published the summer courses for their Community School for Adults and I am interested in enrolling in the Creative Writing I & II class scheduled to begin in late June. Leeward Community College is a convenient commute from my home, and this summer they’re offering a basic course in Writing Essentials, but am wondering if I should take Composition to meet the prerequisite to enroll in more exciting classes like Business Writing and Autobiographical Writing. The decision will come down to finances.
As I was reading The Art of the Start, I attended a weekend long leadership conference which introduced me to The Samurai Game. It’s difficult to explain the game and the results are dependent upon each individuals’ own investment. I gained a lot from my experience, including a new book Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment by the creator of The Samurai Game, George Leonard.
Since the launch of Mr. Kawasaki’s new site, Alltop.com, through trust and dependability – actions, rather than words, I was “Kawasakied” as part of the Alltop Team. Through this humbling responsibility I have been introduced to a plethora of news articles and blogs, and while I’m not necessarily expanding my grammar and writing skills; I am gaining knowledge. Can anyone ever have enough knowledge?
“Focus on organization and time management.”
Ahh…the ever elusive “time.” I’ve asked in several posts that if someone finds “time” to let me know where to find it. All joking aside, I believe I’m slowly gaining ground tackling this goal – slowly.
Which brings me to my confession; with my new position as part of the Alltop Team, managing From the Mind of NEENZ, promoting our basic design business Infinity Productions, coaching a youth basketball team, researching for new business ideas that spawn from my mind – I regret having slacked off as a Truemorist.
Did you really think I was going to regret anything else with respect to Truemors and my position as a Truemorist? Of course not, I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given. So, I shall commit to researching and bringing the news – true rumors – Truemors to you daily.
Hi again Neenz!
It’s been an hour and I am still on your blog reading!
Thanks for telling me about dailywritingtip which I will go sign up for. Graduating from public school (Kaimuki) a long time ago, my blog is the first time in a long time that I have had to write more regularly. Next week is my 1 year blog anniversary!
Cheryl,
One hour? I hope that’s good a thing! That’s two resources you’ve found on here, Alltop and DailyWritingTip!
Happy Anniversary!
Aloha,
NEENZ.
