Citizens of Honolulu Set World Record

As the last few hours of Lei Day wind down, I’m pleased to announce that the City of Honolulu has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for stringing the longest lei! Honolulu’s Mayor Mufi Hannemann had promised to revive the tradition of Lei Day when he first took office in 2005, and this new world record has certainly breathed life into the community. The Mayor asked for a mile, and although the official length has not been reported, we know that the goal was exceeded. This is a tremendous accomplishment to not only the residents of Oahu, but for the entire State as well.

Did you visit a neighbor? I had intended on visiting our favorite neighbors, two Korean sisters we affectionately call Grandma. Lilinoe had mentioned that she thought they went on a trip, and Grandpa confirmed they were in Vegas! Now, while both Grandma’s will have lengthy conversations with anyone one of us on just about anything – Grandpa communicates more with a hand wave or a head nod. But, he we did have a nice conversation which had nothing to do with the weather!

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures to share with all of you, however that may have been a good thing – to focus on my moment with Grandpa.

How’d you spend your May Day?
