The Hawaii Science and Technology Council, now doing business as HISciTech is an industry association representing over 100 companies and organizations in Hawaii. They’re committed to supporting the local science and technology companies – and really what company or organization couldn’t use more support?
I was fortunate to meet HISciTech President, Lisa Gibson whom has enough energy flowing through her veins to rival Hoku Scientific‘s clean solar project and who has a sincere interest in the overall future of Hawaii.
HISciTech focuses on nine sectors:
- Agricultural Biotechnology
- Astronomy
- Biotechnology/Life Sciences
- Defense/Aerospace
- Energy
- Environmental
- Film/Digital Media
- Information/Communication Technology
- Ocean Sciences
Don’t let these terms intimidate you, HISciTech has seen the wealth of sustaining Hawaii’s economy and future and if you haven’t figured it out, it’s in science and technology. In my lifetime I’ve seen the end of the the sugar and pineapple industries, and currently we’re all in the midst of the struggle of the tourism industry. If you’re a local company become a member, if you’re a parent encourage your children to explore the possibilities, and if you’re like me get involved, learn and gain knowledge.
I just learned from the Bytemarks blog that HISciTech has a monthly breakfast the second Friday of each month. I look forward to participating when I am able too, but definitely look for me at The Challenge and Opportunity next month.
