Podcamp Hawai’i Commercial

Hawai’i Geek Week is only a few weeks away, and I’ve shared that I will be on the panel at Mactoberfest. There are more events that I will be sharing in the coming days, but I wanted to highlight an experience of the merging of new and traditional media.

Closing out Hawai’i Geek Week is a 2-day unconference, Podcamp Hawai’i. One of the sponsors of this event is Road Runner who generously gave 300 30-second TV spots. Roxanne Darling and Shane Robinson, the new media minds of Barefeet Studios which produces the award-winning show, Beachwalks with Rox put out a casting call — no, not in a classified ad in the local newspapers but, via Twitter — two days before shooting.

Over a dozen people arrived at the majestic Hawai’i Convention Center, and we filmed a third take just for fun! So, the next time you’re watching Dis-n-Dat, Da Braddahs and Friends or high school football on OC16 — look for Lilinoe on the right of Roxanne or Ryan in his WordPress shirt and even Jayden listening to his iPod shuffle. If you can’t wait, I’ve embeded the commercial in the right-side column of this site.

Join me at Podcamp Hawai’i!

  1. Ryan says:

    It was great! But for the record, I was wearing Roxanne’s WordPress shirt. She helped geek out my wardrobe as I just strolled over from a hotel!

  2. Daynah says:

    I really planned my vacation on the wrong week! Wish I could be there. Hawaii Geek Week sounds like so much fun!

  3. Aloha and Mahalo Neenz! Loved your write up here and we appreciate you posting the video. Turns out we are making a few changes to it at the last minute, but we’l keep this version live.

    Be sure to check your RoadRunner email too for another special Podcamp offer. Jayden was a true star – no surprise there though considering his parents. :-)

    Thank you also for linking to the Convention Center – they have been wonderful to us too!

  4. Sheila says:

    That’s super cool! It was so nice to see faces that I recognize from blogs and twitter. :-)

    I’m going to be on Oahu near the time, but unfortunately just a few days too early for PodCamp Hawaii. :-(

    Do you think this might end up being an annual event?

  5. NEENZ says:

    @Ryan: Yes, technically you borrowed a WordPress shirt!

    @Daynah: There’s always Unconferenz II on January 31, 2009!

    @Rox: Spreading the aloha!

    @Sheila: Yes, I heard you’ll be here, please get in touch! Annual? I hope so!

  6. Tess says:

    I guess I’m a bit late on this comment, but we’re one bright looking group! So fun!
