One Love: Fundraiser for Kanaloa Pantastico

Steadfast \’sted-fêst\ adj.

1. Fixed or unchanging; steady.
2. Firmly loyal or constant; unswerving.

Synonym: Faithful

One of the benefits of being in a new relationship is meeting new people and making new friends. Over the years, one of the persons I’ve met and am priviledged to call my friend is Kanaloa Pantastico. From his smile to his bear hugs to his passion for life, with respect to the Aloha spirit, Kanaloa is the real deal. And, if I had to describe Kanaloa in one word, it would be steadfast.

A proud Campbell High School alum, Kanaloa was the second leading receiver for the OIA Red district during his junior year. Today, he shares his life with his wife Kehau and their four children.

In Polynesian mythology, Kanaloa is one of four major gods and primarily associated with the ocean. And, while my friend continues to move mountains for his wife and children; comes through time and again for his family and friends — he’s steadfastly battling cancer. I have complete faith in Kanaloa, but this fight will require the strength of the entire community.

I invite you for a fundraiser for Kanaloa on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 4Play in Aiea from 7:30 p.m. till closing. This is an 18-and-over event with a $10 cover charge. Kanamon and his friends will have us skankin’ and groovin’, steppin’ out cancer.

Lilinoe and I put together their slideshow for their wedding in 2007.
