20 Hawaii Traditions at Pecha Kucha 8.0

UPDATE: Due to an emergency, I am unable to present at Pecha Kucha 8.0.  I apologize for the inconvenience, especially to the organizers of Pecha Kucha 8.0.

Last July was the first time I had ever heard of Pecha Kucha.  Burt Lum, co-host of the Hawaii Public Radio show, Bytemarks Cafe, Burt Lum was presenting the Top 20 Social Media Geeks in Hawaii; and I had made the list.

PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.  It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

Tonight, I will be presenting “20 Hawaii Traditions” at Pecha Kucha 8.0 along with:

  • David Rockwood (architect)
  • Dorothy Feibleman (ceramic artist)
  • Grady Gillan (blogger)
  • Maika’i Tubbs (artist)
  • Tamara Moan (artist)
  • Debra Drexler (artist)
  • Jessica Ear (JD and professor)
  • Jeannie Randall (visual artist)

The free event will be held at the Honolulu Academy of Arts: The Academy Art Center at Linekona  beginning at 6:30 p.m. with pau hana drinks courtesy of Big Aloha Brewery and SWAM, music by the Jim Hubbard Band, and door prizes from Kisa Kosmos.

So, if you’re available, come and watch my less than 7-minute debut at Pecha Kucha 8.0.
