Updates for TEDxHonolulu

Since the first ever TEDxHonolulu where x = an independently organized event in 2009, many of you in the community have been anxiously awaiting its return.  I had all intentions of hosting another in 2010, however I did not have the same financial resources or time as I did the previous year.  All of the speakers graciously donated their time as did my co-organizers Christine Lu and Traci Toguchi, however any financial cost was from the coffers of Pono Media.  TEDx encourages hosts to seek out sponsors, but in the end, we ran out of time.

Fortunately, I received an email from a gentleman by the name of George Carroll.  His words expressed a sincere eagerness to get involved in the planning of TEDxHonolulu.  Realizing that while I may eventually find the financial resources, I truly wondered if I would ever have the time and commitment required to lead the planning of another large event.  In the end, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to be of service to the community as it deserved with respect to another TEDxHonolulu event.

I reached out to George Carroll and so began the process of moving the TEDxHonolulu license from me to him.  And, today I am proud to announce that the next TEDxHonolulu will be on 11-11-11 led by George Carroll, Campus College Chair of the University of Phoenix Hawaii.  He has recruited an equally eager group of a few dozen individuals, including the co-founders of EmpoweredPresentations to develop and manage the website and social media accounts.

Both Traci Toguchi and I have agreed to participate as members of the TEDxHonolulu Executive Committee giving George and his team our complete support.  After I publish this blog post I’ll be changing the DNS servers for the official website, so it will take a few days to propagate.  Don’t forget to follow @tedxhonolulu on Twitter and join the Facebook community.
